They are old but carry a pretty impressive look. Both Logitech G700 and G700s have been in the market for quite some time now. To some of my inexperienced gamer friends, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of difference between the G700s and its slightly old ancestor. The problem is that when it comes to choosing between the two, things kind of get tough.

Now I am going to talk about the technical aspects of these gaming mice. For instance, did you know that both of these gaming mice have different built in memory bit operations?

The fact is that the majority of population does not care of technicalities and such issues. It also reminds me of my friend who’d drive mathematical means and algorithm charts all over the neighborhood just to show us what his GPU you actually saying to him.

Oh boy, those were the days….

By the way, this post is going to focus more on Logitech G700 because I intended to review it first. I got the mouse a few days back, and didn’t know that there was a G700s model also available. Now that I DO know about both of them, I wanted to compare both products for my readers out there. Whenever you are gaming, the most important aspect of your system is the RAM and other memory components.

Before I got my hands on Logitech G700, I was using Razer Imperator. It is a very good mouse built for average gamers, and gets the job done as advertised. Before the Imperator, I had the Corsair M95; it was mostly used for work related purposes. I got a little bored and decided to head for a newer experience. The G700 is being used for work too; I write codes, I run automated bots, macros, and multiple screens – you get the idea here, don’t you?

Comparative Analysis – Logitech G700 and Logitech G700s:

  • Visuals:

Tear apart the box packaging of both mice and you are looking at Logitech G700s, not the G700. The older mouse has plainer look, where its “S” counterpart has tougher, rougher and more solid appeal to it. In fact, the G700s mouse looks metallic – even though it is all plastic out there.

  • Click Factor:

Logitech G700 emits an obvious click sound. For those who love clicking around, they won’t mind the sound of it. The G700s is more silent and the click is vibrant. However, I have also learned that over time, these “silent click” type gaming mice get clogged by dust particles.

The click button won’t work anymore. Therefore it is better to buy one which is slightly louder and has more distance between the click panel and the base panel where both “flaps” meet.

  • Scroll Factor:

Both the Logitech G700s and the G700 have soft scroll pattern. At least I felt it that way. Some people said that with respect to scroll tilt, the G700s is superior to the G700; I don’t think so. In fact, I personally prefer the G700 because its scroll is easier to lock and unlock.

  • Button Count and Functionality:

Of course, the G700s has more to it when it comes to buttons. Despite of all the buttons, this mouse maintains its ergonomic factor quite well. On the other hand, Logitech G700 is not a bad call for those who are looking for a gaming mouse within buying range.

The G700s goes a step further by offering dual mode scrolling. You can also call it “Click scroll” mode. Some people don’t use it; others love it – the choice is yours. Also, the entire talk of “dual mode” reminds me of the fact that both mice can be either used as wireless or through wired channel. They have a wireless transceiver, which is not likely to be seen in regular gaming/ work mice these days.

  • Memory Profiles:

You can program the Logitech G700s and G700 with a couple of macros. For instance, the G700s’ buttons can serve the functionality of Alt + Ctrl + Del buttons. Likewise these buttons can be pressed simultaneously, which means that the input signal is passed in parallel to the other signals.

The memory profile part is important for both mouse owners because these profiles help reduce lag and the user is no longer depending on key bindings.

Bad Stuff about Logitech G700s and G700:

Some of the things that I did not like about both Logitech products are stated below. But first, I’d like to say that there was no real usable difference between both mice. I think both of them are better at what they were designed to do. If you are short on budget, the G700 is the right mouse for you. It is good for gaming and it does a fine job for workaholics.

  • When you go “wired” the cable is as thick as it gets. It is like an Anaconda coiled all over your desk. On the same note, these mice are also offering your durability at the cost of having a big wire stretched around. I think durability factor is much important.
  • Logitech G700s is slightly more expensive.
  • Unlock my former Razer Imperator mouse, the G700 and G700s cut down on back light part. This feature is probably not introduced because Logitech wanted to extend the battery life.
  • The battery life is average for both mice. I have seen other gaming and work mice that would go on for weeks until they needed a recharge.
  • You still need to buy a mouse pad yo!

Closing Thoughts:

The importance of macros cannot be overemphasized when it comes to professional gaming. It means you are stuck in the middle of a thick mob; the boss has to be tanked and you are yelling at top of your voice to guide the DPS guys. It is what Logitech gaming mice are made for. Both Logitech G700 and G700s are made for people who know gaming and macros in and out.

Whichever mouse you end up buying, the choice is yours. Good luck and have fun. Don’t forget to share your thoughts through the comments section below. You can write to me at [email protected] for questions and product recommendations.
